The Coca-Cola National Schools Rugby League Regional Championships for the Southern Confederate kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday June 26, 2019) at the Oil Search National Football Stadium in Port Moresby.
PNGRFL CEO, Reatau Rau said school teams from Port Moresby North West, Port Moresby North East, Motu Koita and Central will field teams in the Under 14 (Boys), Under 16 (Boys), Under 18 (Boys) and Open Under18 (Girls) divisions.
“Each division will play against each other starting tomorrow (Wednesday) and ends on Thursday,” Rau said.
He said the Coca-Cola Southern Schools Championships will be kicked off by PNGRFL Southern Confederate Director, Gwaibo Mairi at 9.00am when the Central U14 take on Pom Souths U14.
“All teams in the four divisions will assemble at the Stadium by 8.30am tomorrow,” Rau said.
He said the two-day event will showcase some of the best young talents in Port Moresby and Central Province.
“From the Championship, the U14 Boys, U16 Boys, U18 Boys and Open Girls teams will be selected to represent the Southern Confederate at next month’s Coca-Cola NSRL National Championships in Port Moresby."
Meanwhile the Coca-Cola National Schools Rugby League Championshipsscheduled to be held in Port Moresby from July 1 to July 8, 2019 has been deferred to the end of the month.
Rau said the new dates are July 22 to July 27, 2019 in Port Moresby. “This is because our broadcast partners PNG Click TV are covering the Pacific Games in Samoa,” Rau said.
Rau also acknowledged the support of PHA, Boroko Motors and The National newspaper for their support at these championships.
He urged residents and students in Port Moresby to support these talented youngsters from the region during the tournament over the next two days.
“These are our future and please turn out in numbers and give them your support,” Rau said.
